i am trying to breed guppies and platys. what kind of algae eating fish can i get that won't eat the eggs?

That is if any of them won't eat the eggs. How long does it take for the eggs to hatch?

You should expect batches of fry (live birth) every 5 weeks more or less. The better you are at maintaining good tank conditions, the more often they will reproduce. I would suggest snails rather then algae eating fish as they won't add as much of a bio-load to your tank, and you will need the ability to provide room, oxygen and clean water for your growing fry.

Guppies are born live! Get a breeding box, there cheap and hook right on the side of the tank. Raise the guppies alone for a while, even after you release them into the tank they can be eaten. Plycostimus won't eat your guppies.
Try some small catfish
Like he said. There will be no eggs to eat. Guppies and Platys are livebearers.
first of all guppies and platys - don't have eggs - they give live birth . also the mommy's and daddy's will eat the young .if not removed from the tank . you need a small tank to keep the baby's in ,till they get bigger.
Depends on the size of the tank, but, a Chinese algae eater does well. Guppies and Platys, as stated above, are live bearers (like people) and not lay eggs. Do get a breeding box the other fish eat them as fast as they come out if you not have a box. It is sectioned so the babies fall in the bottom away from the mother.
Guppies and platy's give birth to live fry.

It take about 30 day for the female to give birth.
Put her in a breeder tank 2 days before she gives birth.
Leave the fry in the breeder tank anywise other fish will eat the fry and you wont have any left. Fed the fry gold-fish flakes broken up REALLY small.

I have 10 baby platy's doing very well with gold-fish flakes.
I have 2 chinese algae eaters, 1 loach, 6 apple snails, 3 guppies and 5 platy's and 10 baby frys platy's in one of my tanks.

Hope it works for you.
Do NOT get a Chinese Algae Eater. They grow large, become aggressive and stop eating algae after awhile. Please don't even bother with them.

Try six or so otocinculus if you want some algae-eating fish. They're adorable, stay small, and continually eat algae.

As for guppies, yeah, they're livebearers.
Get any type of algae eater you want. I have Chinese Algae eaters and they do the job.

Platys and Guppies are livebearers. They won't lay any eggs!
they r live bearer they wont lay eggs.the fries can swim within few minutes of their birth.so just provide them with hiding place in breeding tank.
