I catch minnows a lot. How do I keep them as pets?

I have a pond. I catch minnows a lot. But when they are kept they die after only a few hours. They also try to hop out and they die that way too. How do I keep pet minnows? Could they live in a tank with my beta fish?
Answers:
Get you a 5 or 10 gal. fish tank with a lead on it put some pond water in it buy you a heater for it and a small pump to aerate the water.
Go to a pet store to find out what size pump you nee and size heater buy some small fish food pellets this may are may not work.
The reason that hey are dieing is you may be using tap water and that contain chlorine.
Feed them steak
You need to talk to an aquarium specialist and get food for the minows. They are not a common pet. Bettas are "Fighting fish". Your Bettas will eat them or kill them sinthey are so small. I recommend that you get a tank and put them in there, or a bowl with a cover
no ur beta will kill them. U need a bubble blower and a huge buket like the ones paint thiner comes in. Thats how i kept mine.
it's probably a shock to their systems when you put them in water that is so far from their natural habitat. Try to keep them in water that they were caught in.
minnows are scavenger fish best used as bait. get goldfish instead or open a bait shop
Stop trying to keep fish that die only after a few hours!
AND do not put them with Betta!
Wild fish can carry disease that you do not want your Betta to get.
Some 'minnow' looking fish might be babies of a larger spices.
Only wild animals used as educational purposes should be caught and kept in a secure place.
you could go down to the pond that you catch them in and fill it up with the pond water. Change the pond water every week or whenever it looks to clean.
your best bet to keeping them is having them in a fish tank. they need a bubbler in order to breath. they arnt like betas that go to the top and suck air. if ur bata is in a fish tank with a bubbler they could go there but it might beat up the minnows. good luck.
You can not put them with a beta your beta is aggresive and will kill them, as far as keeping them in a tank put them in a plastic bag (in the same water you transported them) They can only stay in the plastic bag for no more than about 30 to 45 minutes. So do it quickly. Put the entire bag of fish and water into the aquarium you attend to use for your minnows and allow it to sit for 15 minutes then pour them into your aquarium (they have to adjust to water temp that is why you keep them in the plastic bag in the tank for 15) So they do not go into shock and die in 2 hours. As far as feeding them they will eat small live fish (very small) and you can go to the pet store and buy the frozen foods and big flake goldfish food. But you have to get them some of that frozen food so they do not starve.

Make sure you use a tank with filter, air pumps to get air into the water, and use a chemicle to get the chlorine out of the water. before puttting the fish in.

I had 2 minnows my son cried over using as bait and they lived for 4 years. Oh yeah and a perch. He lived for about 5 yrs. lol
you need to make the pond like their habitat if you want to keep them but you shouldnt take them away from their homes.
I have kept mosquito fish (commonly refered to as minnows, but yours may be different) before with no problems. Aerate their water, keep it filtered, make sure its not chlorinated tap water. You might gradually mix their pond water with non chlorinated water, to allow them to acclimate. Also, if the fish are jumping out, it could be that they are in an insufficient amount of water. Try putting them in a larger container.
