i bought a 2.50 gallon tank. if i went to "scales and tales" could i buy about..lets say.. 4 total snails?i want to keep my tank clean and healthy! would snails be a helper or a threat?big or small?
Answers:
there are two types of snails gold and black, black love to have babies. I always had gold snails they were awesome, some fish like to eat snails though and my frogs loved to eat them so be careful. Also watch out for your little tank, not much can survive. I have a beta in mine
I am curious.what sort of fish are you putting in this tiny tank? I disagree about snails. Or are you using it as a terrarium? In that case, the snails are good. But only 3 or 4.
Snails in a fish tank are not really a good idea, for one they don't need a mate to have babies, and for two they are a pain to keep up with once they have them. that's an awfully small tank for fish anyhow, I wouldn't add any snails to it, personally.
Snails will not hurt your tank in any way.they breathe air, not water..they must return to the top of the tank and use their snorkle to get air. They fill their shells with air to breathe while they are at the bottom. Snails are decent scavengers, will eat leftover food and will eat alga. They are easy to control in number by scraping them up and throwing them out. Be aware that snails can carry parasites that can infect fish. I don't think I have every had a problem, but the possibility does exist. Good luck
Ehh. I wouldn't get snails. They breed so much and then take over your tank. Get cories, not plecos though. Cories are small for a small tank, unlike plecos. FYI on cories? Ask a question!
You only need a single snail for that size of tank to keep algae off the side of the tank. An apple/mystery snail is the best type for your tank. Note that a snail eating the left over food doesn't mean you need have to clean the gravel, and/or the water any less often. The amount of ammonia, and nitrates that builds up in your tank is based on how much food you put into the tank.
