have a blue marble crown tail and a clown pleco want to add a jade double tail cambodian female and a ghost crown tail female with about 6 neon tetras would this be a safe combination for a 12 gallon tank?
Answers:
Beta fish do not do well with any type of fish. They are loner fish that will attack very easily. If it is two female or two male betas they will kill each other automatically. If it is a female and a male they still can fight, but not always and most likely will have babies. But, that's a lot of fish anyway. I would seperate the betas from the tank and maybe eliminate a few. That's my advice
move up in size this is torture. Add plants and stablize the system for a couple months before you stuff that poor little prison any more.
That's too many fish for that size tank. Typicaly you need one gallon per inch of fish, NOT one gallon per fish (ie if you have 5 fish that are 2 inches long you need a ten gallon tank). Also male betta's usually do not do well with other fish. However you can put them in tanks with fish that do not have long fins (the betta will attack these types of fish). BUT he may still not get a long with them in which case he needs to be seperate from the others. In any case it sounds like you're tempted to over crowd your tank so make sure not to do that.
even if the tank was full of plants so they could hide from each other the male would still most likely tear the females up. male and female bettas very very rarely can be kept together and it's never fully peaceful. you'd need a larger tank, lots of plants and structures, a few more females and a noticibly docile male.
No. If you add a female betta you'll probably end up with her getting killed by the male or fry. And plus thats way to many fish for that size of a tank.
your tank is way to small for that many fish . you can't put males in the same tank as they will kill each pther . you don't want to put a male %26 female together eather as the same thing may happen . you can put females together . i have 12 females in my 55 gal . i also have 39 male bettas each in their own tank .
You really can't mix male and female betta. Plus crown tails tend to be even more aggressive than most male betta. The neons might be okay if they are larger. Bettas will eat anything they can fit in their mouths.
Research how large your pleco will get as he ages, many plecos will get a foot long as adults! When you use the guideline of one inch of fish per gallon, use the ADULT size of your fish to determine if you have too many fish.
You can keep a tank more crowded than the inch rule suggests, but only with a larger filter and a lot of extra work doing tests and water changes and fighting disease.
I would suggest that you forget the female bettas and go ahead and add the 6 neons. your pleco, if small, can happily live in there with them, but it will need a new home before he gets over 4" long. That may take a while, so you can save up and get yourself a 20-60 gallon tank.
