i have a goldfish. its nearing 5 years old, but over the past 2 months it has turned from gold to white. why?

about 4 months ago i transfered my goldfish from his tiny bowl into a filtered gucci tank. weeks later i introduced some mountain minnows (4) a small loach and another goldfish. they all get along fine and with the extra room in the tank the goldfish has nearly doubled in size and looks active and healthy.
its only over the past 2 months that the transformation has taken place, and slowly its changed from gold to white.
there is still flex of gold in its fins but thats it.
i dont really mind as i think its getting quite old now and maybe its going gray or something, i am just intrested to know if anyone else has an explination.
thanks.

if he 's been on his own for a long time he would stay gold but as you have placed him with other fish they tend to change to suit the rest of the tank s occupants or have you changed the food your giving him
goldfish can live a long time he's still young at 5 yrs they have a 30 yr life span the longest fish I've had lived for 17 yrs he changed colours a couple of times over the years
white spot, slime
thats weird maybe its sick im not sure maybe itll die
it either getting old or i'm sorry to say this..dying. but i don't think its dying.
Its frightened it might be seen as a terrorist if its not white.
*Chuckles* Since some Koi and Goldfish have a lifespan of up to 250 years it could be due to more sunlight since its summer and it could be the fish is now reaching sexual maturity, along with a change in diet perhaps?
perhaps it feels off colour
Goldfishes lose their color back and forth, for many reasons. Age can be a reason, but goldfishes live much longer than five years. A change in diet, sunlight availability, habitat (like a new tank with fish that it was not with before) or stress. If he is acting healthy, it probably is not anything to worry about, but if you are that concerned about the color change, try a goldfish food with natural color enhancers. Thank you for moving him out of a bowl.
I do believe its age. I had a goldfish do the same thing. It had a red cap for the first 3 years of its life.. Then one day it was just all white.. It lived for two more years. Goldfishs' colors fade and change with time. At some times it may be that white color and others it will look more like it did before the change. Its kinda cool!
It's dying. It also happened to my goldfish.
Your goldfish has ich. Go to the pet shop and get the treatment for it. It will kill your fish if left untreated.
Well our hair goes gray when we get old so why shouldn't fishes scales?
Its called old age!
white is all the rage in the aquatic world. chill out-your fish is just trying to fit in.
dont worry its prob just shock brought on by moving it to a bigger tank.
buy a shark there more fun
That could be Ick or a lack of light within the tank. I would advise taking your fish to the fish shop and ask them for a proffessional opinion. Both of them are not particularly healthy for fish.

Goldfish bowls are bad for them. That is why it grew so suddenly, it should be thriving better now. It is probably changing color due to it's new living enviorment. As my goldfish grew, it was solid orange, then black and orange, now solid orange again. If you are very worried then i would look for other signs of disease, and ask a petstore. http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/disease.htm.
